The Examiner - March 30, 1961 Radio Auction

The annual Radio Auction held to raise money for the work of the Sunshine Camp will be conducted this year on three successive nights: April 17, 18, and 19.

The Auction has been conducted over Radio Station VOCM for many years past, and is an annual event which draws a great deal of public interest. The bidding is always brisk on the many blocks of goods and appliances offered for sale. Everything from hair cuts to flipper pies and TV sets has been sold by the radio auction, with pleasure, amusement and competition for those participating.

Much of the goods sells at premius prices, though there are always a few bargains to be had for those hunting them, and the whole affair takes on the aspect of a game for bidders with a sporting instinct.

The auction is conducted by Rotarians under the management of Mr. John Murphy, and the goods sold are donated by Newfoundland business firms.

Seal Sale Aim:

The sale of Easter Seals, now being conducted by the Canadian Association for the Care of Crippled Children, is designed to raise money for the Sunshine Camp, and to assist in the work of rehabilitation.

The seal sale provides only a small part of the total amount spent yearly on this work, but it is a vital part. This year’s objective is $30,000 – every dollar of which goes straight into the work of rehabilitation in Newfoundland.
